Add text to a video
Put a line of text anywhere on the picture using a nine-point grid. It comes with an outline so it stays readable over any background. Free, in your browser, no upload.

A title, a name, a call to action — one line of text does more for a clip than most effects, and it is the edit people ask for most.
Position comes from a nine-point grid rather than coordinates, because "bottom right" is a thing people think in and "x=0.85" is not.
Text is drawn with a dark outline by default, not as an option. White text over snow or sky is invisible, and that is exactly the case where a preview frame looks fine.
FAQ
Can the text change partway through?
Not here — one line for the whole clip. For text that comes and goes, use the subtitle tool or the full editor.
Why is there always an outline?
Because without one the text disappears over bright backgrounds, and the frame you happen to preview is often not the bright one.
Can I pick a colour or font?
Not on this page. The full editor has the full set of text styles.
Does the original sound survive?
Yes. The picture is re-encoded, the audio is carried over untouched.
Why does it take a while?
Because the picture changed, so every frame has to be redrawn and encoded.
