Why two files instead of one joined clip?
Joining them means re-encoding both halves so they match, which is slower and costs a generation of quality. Getting them separately lets you check each one first; the full editor joins them when you want that.
Can I cut out several sections?
Use the split tool and drop the pieces you do not want — it takes as many cut points as you like.
Does the audio get cut too?
Yes, picture and sound are cut together, so neither half drifts.
What if the part I want gone is at the very start?
